Odisha braces for rain; IMD issues yellow alert across 20 districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued rainfall in various parts of Odisha on Friday. A yellow warning has been issued for as many as 20 districts, alerting residents to the possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Districts under yellow warning include Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara in coastal Odisha. Similarly, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh have also been placed under alert.

According to the IMD, these regions may experience thundershowers along with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph. Residents have been advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging or lightning strikes.

Besides, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thunder showers is expected in Bhubaneswar and neighbouring areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 34 °C and 27 deg C respectively, the weather office predicted.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh.
