With nine places recording maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and above, Odisha continued to boil for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Baripada became the hottest place registering maximum of 41.6 degrees Celsius. Jharsuguda recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius, Sambalpur (40.8), Bhubaneswar (40.7), Boudh and Titlagarh (40.5 each) while Angul, Cuttack, and Sundargarh recorded 40 degrees Celsius each.

The soaring temperature threw normal life out of gear across the State. While roads started bearing a deserted look during the noon hours, cyclists and pedestrians were seen holding umbrella or wearing a turban to save themselves from the scorching heat.

At the same time, the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued on Tuesday left people further worried.

The met office has forecast that heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of interior Odisha from April 13 to April 15 and the maximum (day) temperature is also likely to rise by 3 to 4 degrees in several parts of the state.
