The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its earlier monthly outlook had predicted above normal maximum temperatures over most parts of the country, except parts of southern peninsular India, and some parts of east India.
Already several states are experiencing an intense spell of heat wave for the past couple of days. In its earlier monthly outlook for May, the IMD has predicted that above normal heat wave days are likely over many parts of the northwest and central India and adjoining east India.
It indicates that the number of heat wave days is likely to be above normal over many parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and some parts of Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and adjoining Telangana and north Karnataka.
Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal during 12th-15th; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on 14th & 15th; Jharkhand during 13th-15th; West Uttar Pradesh & West Rajasthan during 15th-18th; East Uttar Pradesh during 14th-18th May.
Hot & humid weather is likely to prevail over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on 12th & 13th; Jharkhand on 12th and Tamil Nadu Puducherry & Karaikal on 12th & 13th; Odisha during 12th-15th; Bihar during 12th-16th May.
Warm night conditions likely to prevail at isolated locations over East Uttar Pradesh on 12th & 13th May.
