No respite from rain in Odisha as fresh low pressure likely to form over Bay of Bengal: IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted that a fresh low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal after August 27, bringing another spell of rainfall to Odisha. The system is very likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in north and interior Odisha, the weather office predicted.
Meanwhile, several parts of Odisha continue to witness rainfall activities under the influence of the prevailing low-pressure system. The regional weather office has issued an orange warning for five districts in Odisha, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
According to the forecast, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda are likely to witness intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
The weather department has cautioned residents of these districts to remain alert as the heavy downpour may lead to waterlogging, disruption of traffic, and a rise in river and canal water levels.
In addition to the orange warning, a yellow warning has been issued for the remaining districts, indicating moderate rainfall and thunder activity.
Officials said wind speeds reaching up to 30 km per hour are expected during thunderstorms, posing risks to weak structures and trees. Lightning strikes may also intensify, prompting authorities to advise people to avoid open areas during heavy rain spells.
Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops, while district administrations have been instructed to remain prepared for any emergency.
