Odisha continued to remain in the grip of intense cold wave conditions with mercury plummeting further in several places.

From coastal to interior Odisha, the winter chill is being felt in most parts of the State, throwing normal life of people out of gear. The biting cold conditions are forcing people to remain indoors during the morning and evening hours.

According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dry weather will prevail in the State for the next four days. The minimum temperature (night temperature) is likely to drop by 2 to 3 degree Celsius in coming days and no significant change will be seen thereafter.

Yesterday Daringbadi was recorded as the coldest place in the State with a minimum temperature of 8.5 degree Celsius while nine places recorded temperature below 12 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, mild snowfalls were witnessed in Koida, Tensa and Kalamang area of Sundergarh district. A thick blanket of snow was seen covering the surface. According to sources, the night temperature in the area dropped to as low as seven degree Celsius, hitting the normal life hard.

“Usually we see severe cold wave condition and snowfall in Koida area in the month of January. While the temperature was hovering between 8 and 10 degrees in the last two days, we feel that it has dropped to below seven degree Celsius. As we are out on morning walk today, we saw a thick blanket of snowfall on vehicles, playground and other surface areas,” said a jogger.
