No change in max temp for 24 hours, mercury to drop by 2-3 degrees; IMD issues thunderstorm alert

People across Odisha are now praying for respite from the unbearable heat wave conditions that have been prevailing in the state over the past several days.

The IMD’s forecast of a drop in maximum temperature has to some extent provided much-needed solace for the people. 

As per the IMD’s forecast, there will be no large change in maximum temperature (Day Temperature) during the next 24 hours and a slight fall by 2-3°C thereafter is expected at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 21.04.2024)

Orange Warning: Heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Angul, Boudh, Cuttack, Keonjhar.

Heatwave condition very likely to prevail at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Deogarh.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.04.2024)

Orange Warning: Heatwave condition very likely to prevail at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul.

Yellow Warning: Heatwave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir.

Yellow Warning: Heatwave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangir,Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal.
