More rain in store for Odisha for next few days, IMD issues orange and yellow warnings

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha will continue to experience thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall in some parts of the state for the next few days.  Orange and yellow warnings have been issued in this regard as well for several districts of the state.

IMD predicts thunderstorm, heavy rainfall in Odisha

A north-south trough now runs from cyclonic circulation over northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh across coastal Odisha. Similarly, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north coastal Odisha, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha will continue to experience thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall in some parts of the state for the next few days.  Orange and yellow warnings have been issued in this regard as well for several districts of the state.

“The maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to fall by 3- 5°C during next 24 hours and no large change during next 4 days and thereafter rise by 2 - 3°C subsequent 2 days over the districts of Odisha,” said IMD.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and Heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 05.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 06.05.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph, heavy rainfall and hailstorm very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 06.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 07.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak.
