Two days after set in over Odisha, four days ahead of its schedule, the progress of further advancement of the southwest Monsoon has slowed down. Informing the development, IMD Bhubaneswar centre director Manorama Mohanty on Monday informed that there is no likelihood of further monsoon advanced in other parts of Odisha in the next five days.

According to Mohanty, the conditions due to south-westerly winds are not favourable for the further progress of the monsoon in the state. The winds are also attributed to excess humidity in several parts of the state.

“In the next five days, some parts of Odisha will experience heatwave conditions. Similarly, some other parts will also experience thunderstorm activities. Coastal districts of the state will experience excess humidity level,” said Mohanty adding that there is a possibility of a rise in rainfall activities after five days in Odisha.

Meanwhile, the SRC office has asked the Collectors of eight districts- Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh and Nuapada to remain alert in view of the heatwave alert for the next five days.

“IMD has forecast that there is gradual rise in maximum temperature by 2 to 3 degree C during the next 5 days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha. Heatwave conditions along with hot and humid conditions along with hot and humid conditions likely to prevail in many places across the state during next five days,” said SRC office in its letter.

Heatwave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Nuapada, Bolangir, Gajapati, Ganjam, Boudh, Jharsuguda.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 12.06.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 13.06.2024)

Yellow Warning: Heatwave condition likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Nuapada. Hot and humid weather condition likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.
