IMD issues alert for thunderstorms in Odisha

After getting slowed down, the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into more parts of Odisha.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday informed that the conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Bihar and Jharkhand during next 2-3 days.

Apart from this, the cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh has become less marked.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.06.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.06.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.06.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.06.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.
