The chilly gust of winter is now being felt in different parts of Odisha. The considerable drop in minimum (night) temperature has compounded the miseries of the residents in Baliguda and Daringbadi of Kandhamal district.

The people here have braced themselves to tackle the wrath of winter. India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday informed that Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 9.5 degree Celsius on Saturday.

As per IMD, there will be no change in the minimum temperature is likely to be below normal by 2 to 3 degrees at many places in the state during the next four to five days.

Meanwhile, the people in Baliguda are relying on bonfires to save themselves from the cold conditions and others are trying to keep themselves by doing  cardiovascular exercises.

In Daringbadi, which is often called as Jammu and Kashmir of Odisha, people are facing lot of inconvenience due to sudden drop in mercury.

 “Due to low pressure system, the temperature was under the control. However, we are now facing problems due to considerable drop in minimum temperature and intense cold conditions. Situation is such that it has almost become extremely difficult to move outside before 10 am,”said a local resident.

Another resident said; “It is impossible to bear such tough cold weather. We are bound to wear full winter clothes along with gloves, and woollen caps to protect ourselves.”

On Friday, IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar had predicted a fall in minimum temperature by 2 to 3 degrees in some parts of the state in 24 hours.
