Low pressure update: IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms in Odisha districts

The low pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal has become less marked. However, the associated upper air cyclonic circulation has merged with an east-west trough that runs from the cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan to Bangladesh across East Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, north Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.

The IMD has issued yellow and orange alerts for thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rainfall activities in several parts of Odisha in coming days.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj.

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar. 

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph , heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati .

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Kandahamal, Kalahandi.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Cuttack, Khordha, Gajapati, Ganjam,Nuapada, Rayagada, Puri.
