The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha.

Under the influence of yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over North and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level over northwest adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal (BoB).

As per IMD, it is likely to move northwestwards towards Odisha coast and become more marked during next 24 hours. The Southwest monsoon has been active over Odisha and already several parts of the state have experienced widespread to moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Day-1: Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 20.09.22

Orange warning (Be prepared) Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur and Koraput.

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Khordha, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir and Bargarh.

Day-2: Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 20.09.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 21.09.22

Orange warning (Be prepared) Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Day-3: Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 21.09.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 22.09.22

Orange warning (Be prepared) Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, and Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nuapada & Sundargarh.

Day-4 and Day-5: Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 22.09.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 24.09.22: No Warning
