The low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal-north Odisha coasts. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday informed that the system is likely to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the next 2 to 3 days.

Several parts of Odisha experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of the low-pressure area in the past 24 hours.

Extremely heavy rainfall was recorded in at least six places - Telkoi in Keonjhar district (182.6 mm), Banki in Cuttack district (182 mm), Gudvella in Bolangir district (139.8 mm), Pipili in Puri district (122 mm), Champua in Keonjhar district (120.6 mm) and Deogaon in Bolangir district (107 mm) in the past 24 hours.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm)very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh. 

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Nuapada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khorda, Cuttack, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore. 

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 20.08.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh.
