Low Pressure likely to form over Bay of Bengal around May 27, heavy rainfall to lash Odisha: IMD

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

The IMD forecasts a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal by 27 May, likely intensifying and causing heavy rainfall in Odisha. Fishermen are advised to heed safety warnings.

Low pressure to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha

A low pressure area is likely to form over west-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around 27 May, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Thursday. It is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 2 days, the agency said.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates that this system will intensify over the next two days, potentially altering weather conditions in the surrounding areas.

“The conditions over the Bay of Bengal are becoming favourable for the development of a low-pressure area over west-central Bay of Bengal around 27th May. Currently, there is a large divergence among models with respect to intensification and movement,” the IMD said in its tropical weather outlook today.

“However, there is consensus about the development of low pressure area around 27th May and its further intensification during the subsequent 2 days,” the report added.

Expected Impact

Meteorologists suggest that as the system strengthens, it could lead to changes in weather patterns along the nearby eastern coastline of India. Local authorities are advised to stay alert for updates and prepare for any necessary precautionary measures.
This meteorological development is likely to bring heavier rainfall to the eastern parts of the country. Communities in these regions are urged to remain vigilant and follow official guidelines for safety.

Fishermen in the affected coastal areas are advised to regularly consult updates from the IMD to ensure their safety. It is vital to heed warnings and avoid venturing into potentially hazardous conditions.

Low Pressure in Arabian Sea

Meanwhile, another low-pressure system, which has developed in the eastern Central Arabian Sea, is poised to intensify into a depression within the next 36 hours, according to meteorological predictions. This weather system is expected to chart a northward path as it deepens into a depression.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is likely to move northwards, with potential strengthening in the coming days. The weather department stated that the low-pressure area is likely to develop further into a depression within the subsequent 36 hours.
