The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted that a low pressure area is brewing over the Bay of Bengal. 

As per the IMD's Bhubaneswar regional centre, a low pressure area is likely to develop over the north Bay of Bengal around August 18.   

"A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast & adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal between 4.5 & 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. Under its influence a low-pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around 18th August 2023," the IMD Bhubaneswar tweeted. 

However, the weather bureau has not issued any forecast as yet regarding rainfall activities under the influence of the low pressure. 

In a separate tweet, the IMD shared details about the rainfall recorded in Odisha from June 1 to August 16.

"Seasonal cumulative rainfall, realized from 1st June to 16th  August 2023 is 673.0 mm against its normal value of  749.0 mm. During the period; 11 districts were deficient,  01 in excess &  rest 18 districts were in the normal category," the IMD Bhubaneswar stated.
