Low pressure in 24 hours: IMD issues orange warning for very heavy rainfall in Odisha districts

As per the IMD, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours under its influence.

Low Pressure To Trigger Heavy Rainfall In Odisha

Yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over Northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday.

As per the IMD, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours under its influence. Moreover, a trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal to east Bihar and another from this cyclonic circulation to Telangana in lower tropospheric levels.

Besides, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in most parts of Odisha till September 7. It has also issued yellow warning to several districts including Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Boudh and Kandhamal. Earlier, weather scientist, Umashankar Das had informed about the possibility of formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Angul.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 05.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 06.09.2023)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Sambalpur.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 06.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 07.09.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Balangir.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 07.09.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 08.09.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm)very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nabarangpur, Nuapada.
