Low pressure forms over BoB; IMD issues orange warning for very heavy rainfall in Odisha districts

The weather department has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha in the next three to four days.

Low pressure to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha

As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area has formed over the central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal.

As per the IMD, the low pressure area is likely to become more marked and move north-westwards towards the Odisha coast during the next two days.

The weather department has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha in the next three days.

Weather Forecast

Day-1: (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 19.07.24)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, Nayagarh and Puri.

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 19.07.24 to 0830 Hrs IST of 20.07.24.)

Orange Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (> 20cm) is very likely to occur over the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Cuttack.

Day-3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 20.07.24 to 0830 Hrs IST of 21.07.24.)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Sonepur, Nayagarh.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khordha, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, and Jajpur.
