Low-pressure brewing! Rainfall warning for coastal Odisha
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and it is expected to trigger rainfall in the coastal parts of Odisha in the next couple of days, informed the IMD in its bulletin on Saturday.
"Under the influence of two upper air cyclonic circulations, a low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest & adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around 23rd September 2024," the IMD said.
"A low pressure is likely to form over Bay of Bengal. On 23rd September, a warning for thunderstorms & lightning has been issued for Coastal Odisha, while isolated heavy rainfall is likely over some places. As the system moves ahead, there is a likelihood of rainfall in some districts of South Odisha on Sep 24th and 24th," said IMD Bhubaneswar Scientist, Sanjeev Dwivedy.
Forecast: Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of South Odisha, North Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha.
Yellow Warning (Be Aware)
Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara.
Forecast: Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of South Odisha, North Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of North Interior Odisha.
Yellow Warning (Be Aware)
Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar.
Forecast: Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South Odisha, North Coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of North Interior Odisha.
Yellow Warning (Be Aware)
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) & thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput.
Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Nawarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh.
Forecast: Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.
Yellow Warning (Be Aware)
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, and Rayagada.
