Low pressure area likely over Bay of Bengal; IMD predicts heavy rain in Odisha districts

A cyclonic circulation is currently active over the North Bay of Bengal and is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Wednesday.

The remnants of Cyclone Wipha are expected to re-enter the Bay of Bengal and take the shape of a cyclonic system. Under its influence, a low-pressure area may form over the northern part of the Bay by tomorrow, triggering a fresh spell of intense rainfall across Odisha.

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall activity in the state under the combined influence of the cyclonic circulation and the potential low-pressure system. Starting today, several districts are expected to receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada districts for today. These areas may witness heavy rainfall at one or two places along with thunder and lightning.

Wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely in some regions. Rainfall intensity is expected to increase from tomorrow, with showers continuing across the state till July 27, according to the IMD.
