Lightning warning, thundershower alert for Odisha as fresh LP area formed

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for several districts in Odisha, including Sundargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Jharsuguda and Nuapada, as a fresh low pressure area has formed over the East central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal. Light to moderate rainthundershowers with lightning are expected on August 29. Heavy rainfall is anticipated from today till August 31.

Heavy Rainfall Alert

With the formation of a fresh low pressure area over the East central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rain/thundershower accompanied with lightning today i.e. on August 29.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for districts like Sundargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Jharsuguda and Nuapada. People have been advised to watch a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strikes.

As per IMD, the low pressure is likely to trigger heavy rainfall and Odisha will experience an active wet spell from today till August 31.

Day 1 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.08.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2024)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.08.2024)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) and thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada.
Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.08.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 31.08.2024)

Orange Warning: Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput.
