The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued an ‘orange warning’ for thunderstorm and lightning in several parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.

As per the latest forecast, the warning has been issued for the districts of Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Khordha.

Apart from that, gusty surface wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph and heavy rainfall is also likely in these districts. The warning will remain valid till May 25 (8:30 am), the bulletin read.

Weather Forecast: Day-1 (valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 25.05.2022)

Orange Warning (Be prepared): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50- 60 kmph and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal,Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khordha.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph is also likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri and Ganjam.

A forecast for thunderstorm and lightning activities have also been sounded for one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Day-2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 25.05.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 26.05.2022)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada.

Day-3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 26.05.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 27.05.2022)

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara.
