The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted enhanced rainfall activities over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and South coast Andhra Pradesh from December 7, 2022.

As per IMD, a fresh low pressure area is likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea by Monday (December 5).

"It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal by December 7 (morning). “Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 8 morning,” said IMD.

Rainfall/thunderstorm forecast and warnings

Widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over Nicobar Islands on December 4 and over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 5, 2022 is expected.

Thundersquall (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) accompanied with lightning is likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on December 5, 2022.

As low pressure system will moves towards Southwest Bay of Bengal, enhanced rainfall activity is likely to commence over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and South coast Andhra Pradesh from December 7 mid-night.

Squally weather (speed 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph) is very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal on December 4.

Squally winds (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) is likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea on December 5 and Squally winds (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) likely over Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal on December 6.

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to commence along and off Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coast from December 8 morning.
