The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted increase in rainfall activities in Odisha from October 1.

As per IMD, a cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge into northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around October 1, 2022.

Under its influence, several parts of Odisha will experience enhanced rainfall activities on October 2 and 3, said Uma Shankar Das, scientist IMD Bhubaneswar.

According to Das, it is too early to say whether the system will lead to the formation of a low pressure or not. “We have only made a forecast for rainfall and thunderstorm activities in different parts of the state in the next five days. Apart from this, there is possibility of rainfall on October 2 and 3,” said Das.

At present, the cyclonic circulation over West-central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over Northwest and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal and extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
