IMD predicts thunderstorm activities in Odisha; yellow alert for several districts

A day after Nor’wester rain wreaked havoc in several parts of Odisha on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted that thunderstorm activities will continue in several parts of the state.

However, there will be no large change in the maximum (Day) temperature at many places over the districts of Odisha. The maximum temperature is likely to be 42 degrees Celsius or more at one or two places over some districts of interior Odisha (Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh) during the next five days.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Ganjam.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Boudh, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput.

Hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.05.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 28.05.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, and Ganjam.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts Nayagarh, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, and Angul.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.05.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.05.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Balasore.
