IMD predicts hot and humid conditions in Odisha; several districts to witness thunderstorm, lightning activities

The India Meteorological Department predicts hot and humid conditions across several districts in Odisha, with thunderstorms likely. Maximum temperatures expected around 40°C in Sambalpur and Bolangir.

The east-west trough now runs from cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan to north Bangladesh across north Rajasthan, south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, Bihar & Sub-Himalayan West Bengal at 1.5 km above mean sea level, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

Light to moderate rainfall has occurred at a few places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha and North Interior Odisha in the past 24 hours.

The IMD informed that there will be no major change in the maximum temperature (day temperature) for the next 6-7 days over the districts of Odisha. The maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to be equal or above 40°C in the isolated pockets of Sambalpur and Bolangir districts.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

Hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.
