IMD issues yellow warning for heatwave as mercury to rise sharply in Odisha

Recent spells of thunderstorm activities in different parts applied brakes on the soaring mercury in Odisha. However, an intense spell of heatwave is again on the cards as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a sharp rise in maximum or day temperature in the state.

As per the forecast issued by IMD on Friday, the maximum temperature is expected to rise by 6 to 8 degrees C after 24 hours.

“No large change in the maximum temperature (Day Temperature) during next 24 Hrs and gradual rise by 6-8 degree C during subsequent 4-5 days at many places over the districts of Odisha,”said IMD.

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for heatwave in several parts of Odisha.

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 13.04.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of South Interior Odisha & at one or two places over the districts of North interior Odisha, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 13.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 14.04.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 14.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 15.04.2024)

Yellow Warning: Hot and humid weather condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Nayagarh, Boudh, Angul, Khordha.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 15.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 16.04.2024)

Yellow Warning: Heat wave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Angul, Dhenkanal.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 16.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 17.04.2024)

Yellow Warning: Heatwave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak.
