IMD issues yellow alert for thunderstorm, heavy rainfall in Odisha

The cyclonic circulation over central parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal now lies over Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday.

As per the IMD, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of south interior Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Moreover, a yellow alert for thunderstorm with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for several parts of Odisha till July 8.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 04.07.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 05.07.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 05.07.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 06.07.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 06.07.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 07.07.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal. Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Angul, Keonjhar.
