The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a heavy rainfall alert for 14 districts in Odisha.

As per the IMD, a low-pressure area has formed the over west-central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to become more marked over west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh- south Odisha coasts during the next 36 hours.

The weather agency in its mid-day bulletin dated September 9 had issued a Yellow Alert for 14 districts with forecasts of thunderstorm activities. 

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi,  Khordha, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Kendrapara.  

Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the deep sea during this period.

Heavy rainfall warning for the next five days as follows:

Day-1: (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 10.09.22)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri.

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 10.09.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 11.09.22)

Orange warning (Be prepared) Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack.

Day-3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 11.09.22to 0830 Hrs IST of 12.09.22)

Orange warning (Be prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nabrangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Puri, Khordha and Ganjam. 
 
Yellow warning (Be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.

Day-4: (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 12.09.22 to 0830 hrs IST of 13.09.22)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Koraput, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

Day-5: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 13.09.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 14.09.22)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
