IMD issues orange and yellow warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha due to a cyclonic circulation over southwest Bangladesh, affecting several districts till July 4, 2025.

IMD issues orange warning for heavy rainfall

The upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal persists over the same region. Under its influence a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal during subsequent 48 hours, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.

As per IMD, the system is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha and Jharkhand.

Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. The IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings till July 4, 2025.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.06.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.06.2025)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, and Bhadrak.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.06.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 01.07.2025)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Deogarh.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 01.07.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 02.07.2025)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Kandahamal, Kalahandi.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Cuttack, Boudh, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda.

Day 6 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 03.07.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 04.07.2025)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.
