Even as the conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of monsoon over Kerala after some delay, the people in Odisha, who are currently experiencing intense heat and humid conditions, are looking forward to the advancement of the southwest monsoon.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a ‘yellow warning’ predicting thunderstorm and heat wave in several parts of the state.

“Maximum temperature (Day temperature) is very likely to rise slightly about 2 degrees C at a few places over the districts of Odisha during the next two days. It is likely to be above normal by 3-5 degrees C at a few places over the districts of Odisha,” said IMD.

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 08.06.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nuapada. Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 08.06.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 09.06.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heat wave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.06.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 10.06.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heat wave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 10.06.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 11.06.2023)

Yellow Warning: Heatwave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 11.06.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 12.06.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak.
