PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Odisha is experiencing severe heatwave conditions with temperatures soaring above 45 degrees in three regions and over 41 degrees in twelve areas. IMD Director Manorama Mohanty predicts a slight temperature decrease, but expects the heatwave to persist in several districts. Additionally, some rainfall with thunderstorms is expected, though monsoon onset remains uncertain for the state.

Heatwave in Odisha

Several parts of Odisha are currently experiencing heatwave conditions. Three places in the state recorded 45 degrees or above on Saturday while 12 places recorded day temperature 41 degrees or above, informed IMD Bhubaneswar director Manorama Mohanty.

According to Mohanty, there has been some drop in maximum temperature in some places but the heatwave conditions will continue in four to 5 places in Bolangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Sonepur for the next three days.

The overall heatwave condition in other districts is likely to improve with a fall in maximum temperature by two to three degrees in the next two days, the director said.

" Interior pockets of Odisha will continue to experience hot and humid conditions with maximum temperature likely to be around 40 degrees. In coastal districts, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail in coastal districts of the state," said Mohanty.

Some parts of Odisha are also likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm activities today and on June 3, 2024.

"Monsoon has set in Kerala and it is to make further advancement. Till now no forecast has been made for monsoon onset over Odisha. As of now the conditions are not favourable for the monsoon onset here." said Mohanty.
