Heavy Rainfall Alert

Odisha is currently witnessing intense rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for today, warning of heavy showers and gusty winds. The alert comes amid already ongoing downpours in various parts of the state, triggering concerns over waterlogging, crop damage, and transportation disruption.

According to the IMD forecast, districts under warning are likely to experience rainfall coupled with thunder and lightning, and wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 kmph. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors during intense spells, avoid sheltering under trees, and maintain caution while commuting.

In a more alarming development, an Orange Warning—which indicates very heavy rainfall—has been issued for three districts in Odisha- Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

The Met office has also extended the warning to tomorrow (June 25), stating that similar weather conditions are expected to prevail across most parts of the state.

Authorities have been alerted to remain prepared for emergency responses, while residents—particularly farmers and those in low-lying areas—are being cautioned against the possible impact of the adverse weather.

The regional meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar is closely monitoring the system and will continue to update its forecasts.
