Even as several parts of Odisha are reeling under heat wave conditions during the daytime, rainfall triggered by thunderstorm activities is providing much-needed respite to people during afternoon/evening hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted that thunderstorm-triggered rainfall will continue in different parts of Odisha till May 9, 2025.

The IMD has also issued orange and yellow warnings for thunderstorms with lightning, hailstorms, and heavy rainfall in some parts of Odisha during this period.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak .

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur ,Jharsuguda, Jajpur .

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Angul, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal .

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada.
