Even as many districts of Odisha have gone under water due to flood, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall from today.

“A fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over east-central India from the night of 18th August,” the IMD said in a press release.

The weather bureau has also predicted that a Low Pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around 19th August, 2022.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over south Myanmar & neighbourhood and extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under its influence a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around 19th August, 2022,” IMD’s Bhubaneswar regional office said in a press release. 

The weather office has issued rainfall forecast and warnings for the next four days.

Day-1: (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 18.08.22) Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightening very likely to occur at one or two places over the Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.  

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 18.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 19.08.22) Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.

Day-3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 19.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 20.08.22) Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh and Jajpur.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Nuapada, Nawarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Day-4: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 20.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 21.08.22) Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi.

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, and Keonjhar.
