Heavy rain likely in Odisha
A fresh upper air cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over North Andaman Sea around October 20. Under its influence, a low pressure area likely to form over Central Bay of Bengal around October 22, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its current weather status and extended range forecast for next two weeks (17-23 Oct, 2024) released on Thursday.
As per IMD, the Depression that is likely to form over the Central Bay of Bengal around October 24 is likely to trigger heavy rainfall. Isolated heavy to very heavy with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha.
In its forecast, the IMD has further said that due to such rains, there could be landslide chances over Hilly areas in this region and flooding over the low-lying areas. Also, there are chances of urban flooding in coastal cities, riverine flooding in the east flowing rivers of Odisha and West Bengal.
