A fresh low pressure area is likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea around November 16, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In its forecast issued yesterday, IMD said that the current well marked low pressure area lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of northeast Sri-Lanka off Tamil Nadu coast with the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to upper tropospheric levels.

"It is very likely to move north-westwards towards Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts till November 12 morning. “It is likely to move west-northwestwards across Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and Kerala during November 12-13 and emerge into Southeast and adjoining East-central Arabian Sea as a low pressure area/ cyclonic circulation on November 13, 2022,” said IMD.

Heavy rainfall warning

Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Rayalaseema, south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala & Mahe during November 11 -13.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places with isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and adjoining areas; heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over north interior Tamil Nadu; heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over south Tamil Nadu on November 11 and heavy to very heavy rainfall over north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 12, 2022
