Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, a fresh Low Pressure Area has been formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand. As per latest reports, the fresh cyclonic circulation is very likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha.

According to IMD reports, the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level and is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during next 24 hours.

“The system will have its impact on Odisha for the next couple of days with many areas in the State expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall activities. Extreme rainfall can be expected today and tomorrow. Apart from Odisha, east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will also witness heavy to very heavy rainfall,” informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.

However, he remained positive about no floods in Odisha and said, “Though many places are expected to receive 20cm rainfall, places in north Odisha have recorded deficit rainfall. So, there is low chance of flood.”
