Fresh low pressure under cyclonic circulation's influence by Dec 7; check IMD’s rain, cold wave forecast

Cyclonic circulation over Equatorial Indian Ocean may cause a low-pressure area in South Bay of Bengal by December 7. IMD forecasts rain in Tamil Nadu and cold waves in North Rajasthan.

Cyclonic circulation forms, low pressure likely in 24 hours 

A cyclonic circulation lies over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over central parts of south Bay of Bengal around December 7, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.

As per IMD, the system is likely to move west-north-westwards and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri-Lanka – Tamil Nadu coasts around December 12. 

Under its influence, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Tamil Nadu on December 11 and 12 and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on December 12.

“A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains of Northwest India from 08th December. It is very likely to cause light/moderate rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan Region and light isolated rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & West Uttar Pradesh December 8 and December 9, 2024,”said IMD.

Forecast & Warnings 

Heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 11th & 12th and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on 12th December.

Dense fog conditions is very likely to prevail during late night/early morning hours in isolated pockets of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till December 9th, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Uttar Pradesh during 07th-10th, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar during 08th-10th and Himachal Pradesh on 10th & 11th December morning hours.

Cold wave conditions very likely in isolated pockets over North Rajasthan during 10th -12th December.
