The first low pressure area of this year is expected to form over the south Bay of Bengal adjoining south Andaman Sea in the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Sunday.  

“A cyclonic circulation lay over strait of Malacca and adjoining south Andaman Sea with vertical extension up to 5.8 km above mean sea level at 0300 UTC of today, the 27th February, 2022. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours,” the IMD said in its tropical weather outlook.

The system is likely to move further towards Sri Lanka coast during subsequent 48 hours.

Under its influence, heavy rainfall activities are likely to occur at isolated places of south coastal Tamil Nadu on Wednesday and Thursday.

The weather department further said that scattered to broken low and medium clouds with embedded intense to very intense convection lay over southeast Bay of Bengal south of latitude 10.0 degree N, south Andaman Sea and strait of Malacca (minimum cloud top temperature minus 75 degree Celsius).

Similarly, scattered low and medium clouds with embedded moderate to intense convection lay over south Comorin area.

Weather Activity in Odisha 

Light rainfall has occurred at one or two places over the district of Keonjhar of north Interior Odisha and dry weather prevailed over the rest districts of Odisha. Dense fog has occurred at one or two places over the district of Jagatsinghpur of North Coastal Odisha and moderate fog has occurred at one or two places over the districts of Puri and Angul of Odisha.

Day-1 

1.Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
2. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Dhenkanal and Angul.

Day-2   

1. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

2. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha and Kandhamal.

Day-3, 4 and 5 

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.
