The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted enhanced rainfall activities with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh from September 15 to 17.

As per IMD, the well marked low pressure area lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood. “Due to its likely interaction with the trough in middle latitude westerlies, the system is likely to recurve gradually north-northeastwards towards East Uttar Pradesh during next 72 hours,” said IMD.

However, subdued rainfall activity is likely over South Peninsular India during the next 5 days.

Rainfall forecast and warnings:

Widespread light/moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh during September 15-17.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh on September 17, 2022.

Isolated heavy rainfall likely over East Madhya Pradesh on September 15, 2022. Light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over Saurashtra & Kutch on September 15; Bihar, Sub- Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Gujarat Region on September 15 and 16; Odisha on September 18 and 19and over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa during September 15-17.

Fairly widespread/ widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on September 15 and September 16, 2022.
