After reeling under intense heatwave conditions, people in several parts of Odisha got much-needed relief from the scorching heat following rain and thunderstorm activities on Sunday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday had predicted a drop in the maximum temperature by 2 to 3 degree Celsius for the next three days in different parts of Odisha.

"The weather condition has improved to some extent following rains last night. We are happy that it has brought the temperature down today. Earlier, we were facing problems due to intense heatwave conditions for the last few days," said a resident of Keonjhar.

The IMD has also issued an 'orange warning' for hailstorms in five districts of the state today. The alert has been issued for the districts of Cuttack, Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur.

A yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning has also been issued for several districts as per the forecast issued by IMD on Saturday.
