A low-pressure area has formed over southwest and the adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal and now lies over the same region with the associated cyclonic circulation, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.

As per the IMD, the system is likely to intensify further into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around October 22.

“It is likely to move west-north-westwards initially till October 22 morning and then gradually re-curve north north-eastwards towards Bangladesh coast,” said IMD.

Forecast And Warning

Day-4: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 23.10.2023 to 0830 Hrs IST of 24.10.23)

Light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput Malkangiri.

Day-5: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 24.10.2023 to 0830 Hrs IST of 25.10.2023)

Light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal.

Fishermen Warning:

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of West central Bay of Bengal from October 22, over west central adjoining north Bay of Bengal from October 23 and along and off Odisha coast from October 24 till further notice. Fishermen whoever in deep sea are advised to return to the coast by October 22, said IMD.
