The well-marked low pressure area over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coast is likely to concentrate into a depression, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

As per IMD, the system is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours and move west-northwards and Chhattisgarh.

The Met agency has issued a ‘red warning’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall for several Odisha districts in the next 24 hours.

Weather forecast and warnings:

Day-1: (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 09.08.22)

Red warning (Take action): Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places (7 to 20cm) with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal.

Orange warning (Be prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, and Kalahandi.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 09.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 10.08.22.)

Red warning(Take action): Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places (7 to 20cm) with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul and Keonjhar.

Orange warning (Be prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

Yellow warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Puri, and Rayagada.

Day-3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 10.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 11.08.22)

Orange warning (Be prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bargarh

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur.

Day-4: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 11.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 12.08.22)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

Day-5: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 12.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 13.08.22

Yellow Warning (Be updated):  Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Balasore and Mayurbhanj.
