The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall spells over north Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during December 7 and December 9, 2022.

As per IMD, a low pressure area currently lies over the south Andaman Sea and neighbourhood. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by tomorrow.

Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further gradually into a cyclonic storm and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 8 morning.

Rainfall Warning

Light/moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 5 and isolated heavy falls on 6 December 2022.

Enhanced rainfall activity with rainfall at a few places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely to commence over north coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal from December 7 mid-night. It is likely to increase with rainfall at most places to heavy to very heavy at isolated places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over north Tamilnadu & Puducherry on December 8 and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu on December 9.

Enhanced rainfall activity with rainfall at a few places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely to commence over south Andhra Pradesh from December 7 mid-night. It is likely to increase with rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on December 8 and isolated heavy rainfall on December 9 over south Andhra Pradesh.
