A cyclonic circulation has formed and lay over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.

As per IMD, a low pressure area is likely to develop over the same region by May 8, 2023.

The latest forecast by IMD said that the low pressure system is likely to concentrate into a depression around May 9.

“Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards central Bay of Bengal. The details of its path and intensification will be provided after the formation of the low pressure area,” said IMD.

Rainfall Warning

Moderate rainfall at most places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during 8th-12th May with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall during 8th-11th May and scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely on May 10 over the same areas.

Wind Warning

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea from May 7 onwards.

Wind speed would gradually increase becoming 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea from May 9 onwards.

Wind speed would further increase gradually becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal from May 10 onwards.
