Bhuabneswar: The Odisha  government on Monday instructed the top brass of the State bureaucracy to oversee rescue and relief operation in various coastal districts even as the weather department predicted  cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ is most likely to hit the coasts between North Odisha and West Bengal on May 26.

Senior bureaucrat Hemant Sharma has been given the charge of Kendrapara where he will supervise the pre and post-cyclone preparedness. Saswat Mishra will look into the rescue and relief readiness in Jagatsingpur while VV Yadav will coordinate with the Bhadrak district administration over the rescue and relief operations. 

Similarly, Vishal Dev has been entrusted with the charge of Balasore while preparedness for Mayurbhanj district will be looked after by Suresh Vasist.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed the senior officers to take over the assignments at the earliest.

While reviewing the preparedness for the probable cyclone, Patnaik had yesterday directed all the officials concerned to ensure flawless arrangements.
The Collectors and SPs of the districts likely to be affected have been instructed to evacuate vulnerable people to safe places, the CMO tweeted.

It further had stated that the government had prepared 66 ODRAF, 22 NDRF and 177 fire services teams which will be deployed in the sensitive districts which would most likely to be affected by the cyclone. Necessary arrangements have also been made to ensure electricity and water supply, the Chief Minister’s Office tweeted.

At the same time, the Chief Minister also stressed on the smooth health care services in Covid hospitals.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that cyclone 'Yaas' is likely to make landfall on May 26 noon between North Odisha and West Bengal.

According to the IMD bulletin, districts like Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj are likely to be affected most due to the calamity.
