Cyclone Yaas: Odisha CM Naveen Announces 7-Day Relief For Affected Families

Odisha CM Sanctions Additional Funds To 3 Dists For Covid Managament Bhubaneswar: In order to manage the rising Covid-19 situation, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday sanctioned additional funds for three districts-Puri, Sonepur and Sambalpur- from the chief Minister Relief Funds (CMRF). Puri district which had earlier received of Rs 14,59,74,408 from the government, was sanctioned additional further from CMRF. With the additional amount, Puri district now has received a total Rs 16,59,74,408  for Covid management. Similarly, the Chief Minister has also sanctioned Rs 1 Crore for Sonepur district, which was given 2,50,00,000 earlier. With Rs 1 crore additional funds, the total amount sanctioned to the district went up to 3,50,00,000 for Covid-19 management. Similarly, Sambalpur district received a total Rs 16,12,80,692 with additional fund of Rs 4,62,80,692 released today from the CMRF. The government had previously sanctioned Rs 11,50,00,000 for the district to spend on Covid management.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday directed officials to provide relief materials to all the residents of 128 marooned villages in the State which were largely affected by the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas.

The announcement came after Patnaik reviewed the post cyclone situation in the State today.

The CM also directed officials to clear the major roads for smooth transportation in the next 24 hours and 80% restoration of electricity supply in the affected districts in the next 24 hours. 

Patnaik congratulated all the Panchayat representatives, districts administrations, community organisations and police for their excellent work in evacuation. 

He also thanked the doctors and health workers for continuous health service in the affected districts during the cyclone.

The very severe cyclonic storm Yaas continues to weaken after landfall and turned into a cyclonic storm. According to IMD, the Cyclone Yaas had crossed north Odisha coast at 20 km south of Balasore between 10 and 11.30 am today. 

 

As per the special weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), “The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Yaas’ over north coastal Odisha moved north-northwestwards with a speed of about 10 kmph during past 6 hours. It has weakened into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and lay centered about 25 km west northwest of Balasore and 35 km south-southwest of Baripada.”

The system is very likely to move northwestwards and weaken into a cyclonic storm during next 3 hours, predicted the IMD.

Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts of Odisha including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal. 

Similarly, yellow warning has been issued for Angul, Deogarh, Sundergarh and Sambalpur, and these places are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
