The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted that several parts of coastal districts of Odisha will experience rainfall activities associated with the probable cyclone brewing over Bay of Bengal.

As per IMD, rainfall activity associated with system is very likely to start from early hours of October 24, 2022 over coastal districts of Odisha. As per the forecast, the low pressure area is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over Eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal around October 22and into a deep depression on October 23.

“It is very likely to recurve northwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over westcentral and adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal by October 24. Thereafter, it is likely to move gradually north- northeastwards and reach near West Bengal - Bangladesh coasts on October 25, skirting Odisha coast,” IMD’s bulletin read.

Heavy Rainfall Warning In Association With The System

Day-4: Valid from 0830 hourss IST of 23.10.22 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.10.22)

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Puri.

Day-5: Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 24.10.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 25.10.22)

Yellow Warning (Be Uupdated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khordha and Puri.

Wind Warning For Sea Area

October 22: Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over eastcentral & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.

October 23: Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is very likely over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

October 24: Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph is likely over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral & north Bay of Bengal.

October 25: Gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal.
