Amid apprehensions, cyclonic storm Sitrang spared West Bengal coast but battered parts of Bangladesh killing at least seven people.

As per media reports, seven people including three members of a family lost their lives following the collapse of a brick railing and trees.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest bulletin said that cyclone Sitrang which had weakened into deep depression after making landfall in Bangladesh has now turned into a depression.

"The Deep Depression over Bangladesh (Remnant of Cyclonic Storm “SITRANG”, pronounced as “Si-Trang”) moved north-northeastward with a speed of 20 kmph during past 6 hours and further weakened into a Depression and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of 25 th October over northeast Bangladesh and neighborhood near latitude 24.7 0N and longitude 91.5 0E, about 150 km northeast of Dhaka, 90 km north-northeast of Agartala, and 100 km south-southwest of Shillong," the IMD said.

"It is very likely to continue to move north-northeastwards and weaken into a well marked low pressure area during next 6 hours," it added.

The IMD further informed that the weather in the southern West Bengal districts is likely to improve from the forenoon.

However, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura today (October 25).
