An ‘Orange warning’ for heavy rainfall has been issued for the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar under the influence of the cyclonic storm even though it has weakened into a Deep Depression.

As per IMD, the system is likely to turn into a Depression as it will near Odisha coast near Puri around noon today. “It is likely to continue to move north-northeast wards along Odisha coast towards West Bengal coast and weaken into a low pressure area during subsequent 12 hours,” said IMD.

India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar informed that already several parts of the State are experiencing moderate rainfall since last night. Similarly, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will experience heavy rainfall today.

Forecast:

-Generally cloudy sky with a few intense spells (2-3 cm/hour) of rain is likely to lash Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

-Strong gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) is very likely to prevail in some parts of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is likely to occur in the twin city.

Possible Impact:

-Waterlogging in low-lying areas and closure of underpass

-Occasional reduction in visibility during intense spell of rain

-Disruption of traffic due to waterlogging in roads leading to increased travel time.

-Breaking of tree branches
